Numerex Corp., Atlanta, Ga., introduced new RFID-based (radio frequency identification) technology: Orbit One’s Global-RFID technology platform. The platform, the company says, is the foundation for a new line of active tags designed to overcome some of the limitations and challenges of traditional RFID tags.
According to Numerex, the G-RFID platform will enhance the Orbit One Total Asset Visibility solution by allowing RFID-enabled assets to communicate location and alert information to low-earth orbit satellites. With the ability of to communicate with LEO (low-earth orbit) constellations, RFID tags’ “coverage footprints” expand from areas of a few feet to the expanse of an entire continent, Numerex says.
